New Clips In The Rum Diary
The Actor-brad Pitt demands to possess some boozeIf you've read Hunter Thompson's The Rum Diary you know that although it's a lot of things - riotous, chaotic, colourful - what it really is not is definitely an clearly 'filmy' book. There's very little conflict, little requirement for resolution with no large villain to possess audiences hissing in the screen. On the other hand, such like was stated about Fear And Loathing In Vegas which wound up winning a place in cult movie paradise. This, we suspect, is how Bruce Robinson is available in. It is a greatly welcome return for that Withnail And That I director, coaxed from semi-retirement by The Actor-brad Pitt to create and direct. The humour and none-more-quotable patter that made Withnail great, coupled with Thompson's acidity prose, should alllow for a feast for fans of wise scriptwriting and blackly comic moments. Both of these new clips in the film, thanks to Yahoo!Movies, set the scene for Paul Kemp's (Depp) arrival within the Puerto Rico capital of scotland - San Juan, where he's because of begin working for that San Juan Star. There he will get involved with a bombshell blonde through the title of Chenault (Amber Heard), sharp operator Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart) along with a titanic quantity of rum.Depp's in comparison the storyline to Casablanca, humbly we are sure, and there is greater than a touch of Scoop inside too. It's in movie theaters from November 11 tell us if you are searching toward seeing Captain Jack in landlubbers garb within the usual place...
Dawn of the undead
Beck worked on the singular musical episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' titled 'Once More With Feeling.'Christophe Beck worked on more than a dozen TV series, and won an Emmy, before he got his big feature-film break with the cheerleading movie "Bring It On" in 2000.From UPN's sitcom "Pig Sty" to ABC's "Spy Game," nearly all of Beck's TV career was for short-lived or ill-fated series. But one stands out, and helped propel Beck into the film career he has today: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."Beck scored half of its second, and all of its third and fourth seasons (from 1997 to 2000), winning an Emmy at the end of his first year. "Musique Fantastique" author Randall Larson says: "The music is incredibly rich in emotional layers and aggressive potency. It's by far some of the best music that has ever graced the smallscreen.""TV scoring is a great training ground," Beck says. "You have to do so much work so quickly. One thing 'Buffy' did for me was to really hone my fake-orchestra producing skills." Budgetary constraints forced him to produce the weekly score on synthesizers, although he added one or more musicians (usually a woodwind player), which "made everything sound more real."But, he adds: "No matter how far you get in TV, it's really like starting from scratch when you go to do films. So after three seasons of 'Buffy' and one season of 'The Practice,' I quit.""Bring It On" and "Big Fat Liar" came along over the next two years and Beck was able to transition to a full-time film career. But all that electronic music for TV made Beck a whiz at a skill that is now deemed crucial for every composer in film: the mock-up, whereby a director can hear a synthesized approximation of every cue and thus not be surprised when they hear it played live, days or weeks later, by an orchestra.BILLION-DOLLAR COMPOSER: CHRISTOPHE BECK Beck's green phase | Resurrecting 'Muppets' in Disney tradition | Dawn of the undead | Beck's music in his own words | Beck, private school grad, gives back Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

HBO Shuts Down Its Casting Department
EXCLUSIVE: HBO is shutting down its casting department, with its staff, led by 14-year HBO veteran, SVP Carrie Frazier, and VP Amy Jo Berman, exiting. HBO uses outside casting directors on all of its projects, with the in-house casting executives playing a supplemental role, mostly on the longform side. With the pay cable network’s movie and miniseries output decreasing over the past few years, HBO brass have made a decision to close that department. The network may revisit their casting needs in the future. HBO’s decision is the latest in a growing cost-cutting trend over the past several years on both the TV and feature side that involves the downsizing/eliminating in-house casting departments or the phasing out of seasoned senior staff casting executives. Rick Jacobs left Lifetime 2 years ago as part of the company-wide layoffs. NBC’s Marc Hirschfeld was let go from NBC in the 2008 executive shakeup. Walt Disney Studios dropped Marcia Ross in February. Beth Klein exited Showtime in April after 23 years. (She has since landed at Universal Television) The list goes on. “Sometimes they are replaced by junior casting execs at a fraction of the cost. Many times they eliminate the position entirely,” one industry insider said. “Hiring a casting consultant as a freelance is a way to keep your headcount low.” Newer players in the original programming arena forgo the casting department route altogether. Starz, for instance, has never had one. Instead, the network has a non-exclusive deal with Hirschfeld who serves as their casting consultant.

Co-produced by Revolution Films, the Uk production company behind IFCs The Trip, the Peter Morgan-scripted feature follows a sexual circle of prostitution, infidelity and soul mates. Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz and Jude Law star. Paris-based telemarketer Wild Bunch is selling the BBC Films-backed project worldwide. Reviews here today are actually pretty moderate: The Daily Telegraph made clear the film just like a glossily unengaging trudge through other artists love lives explaining one moment where a character imagines an plane moving away his lover as spectacularly stupid. The Occasions located in london offers the film a significant dismissive 3-star review, calling the plot improbable, and mentioned the merry-go-round structure crushes performances into twenty-minute slots that frequently don't elicit our sympathy. The Evening Standard though was much more positive, calling 360 a correctly-crafted package together with a movie of lovely moments, elegant structure and vivid locations. Planners in the LFF drummed up some star energy with Jude Law speaking round the red-colored-colored carpet Anthony Hopkins and Rachel Weisz though werent available. Weisz, who stars in LFF closing film The Dark Blue Sea on October 27, was busy in NY filming while Hopkins, Im told, does not enjoy travelling. Personally, I believed that Hopkins gave an amazing performance just like a sober alcoholic although given his extended link with Aa, you must do question simply how much of just one scene where he shares within an AA meeting was ad-libbed while Ben Promote was scarily unpredictable just like a billed child rapist.
